Director of Investment and Enterprise at UNCTAD


James Zhan has been Director of Investment and Enterprise at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) since 2009. He also leads the preparation of the annual UN World Investment Report. Dr. Zhan chairs the Governing Board of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, and is the chief strategic advisor for the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA). He is also editor-in-chief of the journal Transnational Corporations. He was also member of the Advanced Manufacturing Council, and the Trade and Investment Council of the World Economic Forum.

Established in 1964, UNCTAD is a United Nations body headquartered in Geneva which deals comprehensively with trade and development issues. Currently, UNCTAD has 194 member states. The Investment and Enterprise Division is responsible for international investment and enterprise development in the United Nations system, and plays a leading role in global investment trends and policy research, technical advice and assistance, and coordination of international investment regulations.
